The solo exhibition Étant donnés; 1° l’ouverture, 2° la fermeture … 2006-2012 (Given; 1. Opening, 2. Closure … 2006-2012) presents an installation with new works by the artist Suzanna Asp. The starting point for the exhibition is a site-specific installation by Marcel Duchamp and the works exhibited circle around relationships between the viewer, the work and the room. Inspired by research from architecture- and gender studies and experiences from surgeries and stays in hospitals Asp in her new works explores feelings of exposedness and possibilities for self-determination and change.
The work Waterfall (a painting on wheels installed onto a steel pipe) separates the space of the exhibition room in two and alternately functions as a wall and a door. The work Anxiety (a ladder, a building lamp and two stretchers with light filters) lets a magenta coloured light blaze onto the space of the exhibition. The work Spanish Door (a painting of a door) suggests a continuation of the room beyond the one the visitor of the exhibition moves in.
Presented to the exhibition is an exhibition catalogue with documentation of the works, reference material and a text written by the artist/poet Christina Kullmann.

Suzanna Asp is born 1976 in Karlstad, Sweden. Graduated with a Master of Fine Arts degree from The Finnish Academy of Fine Arts in Helsinki 2009. Recent solo exhibitions include Play in Three Acts at Wip:Arthall in Stockholm (with Susanne Neuman), Värmlands Museum Revisited at Värmlands Art Museum in Karlstad, Hall of Mirrors at Gallery Huuto in Helsinki. Group shows include Silent Wishes at Oksasenkatu 11 in Helsinki, Örebro Open Art at Örebro Konsthall in Örebro, Hyvät työt at Mustarinda in Hyrynsalmi, Labyrint at Botkyrka Konsthall and Rummaging at Bonniers Konsthall in Stockholm. In 2011 she received a one-year working grant from The Swedish Arts Grants Committee. During 2012 she is invited to the Residency Program at Skaftfell Center for Visual Art in Seyðisfjörður, Iceland.
